Around a year ago, I heard about the Happy Hacking Keyboard Type-S (HHKB Type-S) and I instantly felt in love with the keyboard and the asthetic design of it. However, it came with a hefty 400$ price tag which led to me not purchasing the keyboard at that time but around three months ago I saw someone selling their HHKB Type-S keyboard for 220$ and I instantly purchased it. I have been using the HHKB Type-S keyboard for some months now therefore I decided to create this blog post.
Once I received the HHKB Type-S keyboard I instantly connected it to my Macbook and had an issue where the function keys (F1, F2, F3, and so forth..) was not detected. This issue was resolved by installing Karabiner Elements and once it's installed you will need to reboot your device and then the issue should be resolved.
When I initially received the HHKB Type-S keyboard, my typing speed was anywhere from 60 wpm to 70 wpm and after using it for a day my typing speed increased to 70 wpm to 80 wpm. Here's a complete overiew of monthly experience with HHKB Type-S keyboard:
After using it for months my typing speed increased from 80 WPM to 100 WPM and my productivity has significantly increased because of the keyboard.
The HHKB Type-S keyboard is fantastic for programming, writing emails, writing blogs, and switching between multiple of devices. However, I wouldn't recommend the HHKB Type-S keyboard for gaming as the CONTROL KEY is placed where the CAPS KEY is located and that can be difficult to get used to. If you're searching for a gaming keyboard I would highly recommend Wooting 80HE which is getting released at 2024 June.
The HHKB Type-S is light-weight, compatible with all operating systems, and compact with all the features you need to do work and it's great for Office use as it doesn't make a lot of sounds. I would recommend HHKB Type-S keyboard for people who spends most of their time programming, writing emails, and writing blogs. However, I wouldn't recommend the keyboard for people who plays video games as there are better options such as Wooting 80HE. If you mainly spend your time on the laptop to be productive than I would highly recommend giving the HHKB Type-S keyboard a chance.
